Established in 2004 by 25 founding farmer members, the Nano Challa cooperative was formed to foster unity among the coffee growers and to share their efforts in solving issues around finding good buyers for their product, alleviating debt and improving standards of production.
In 2010, Nano Challa was chosen to be part of the Technoserve Coffee Initiative, which provided technical assistance to the cooperative. The initiative achieved improved coffee quality, and was instrumental in better debt management, reinvestment and the fair distribution of funds to each coop member. Since 2010, Nano Challa's membership has reached over 400 and the coop's coffees have become some of the finest across Ethiopia, playing a vital role in radically improving the livelihoods of farmers and their families in the region.
The coffees cultivated by the cooperative consist mostly of old, naturally indigenous heirloom varieties.
This coffee is certified Organic.
